Brian Leon Carpenter Obituary

Brian Leon Carpenter, 56, Olyphant, died Friday morning at home after a long-fought battle with kidney disease.

Born in Scranton, son of Beatrice Colangelo Carpenter and the late Forrest L. Carpenter, he was a graduate of Mid Valley High School Class of 1983, and the University of Scranton where he attained his bachelor’s degree in accounting. Prior to his illness, he had been employed at A.J. Chevrolet.  He was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Olyphant where he served as a lector.

Brian had an immense thirst for knowledge and was proud of his intelligence.  He enjoyed history, reading, the arts, and had an eclectic taste for music that he would play while hosting his radio at the University.  Wherever he went, he was able to make friends, in part to his smile, jokes, and (sometimes corny) sense of humor.  He loved his family, and the sarcastic banter back and forth kept everybody laughing.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at DaVita who gave him exceptional care as he underwent dialysis for the past 16 years.

Also surviving is his sister Kathryn Chrusciel and husband Joseph, Jessup; and brother David Carpenter and wife Melanie, Archbald.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel in 1975.

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant.  Interment, Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton.

Friends may pay their respects Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
