Helen DiLeo Obituary

Helen “Rose” DiLeo, 85, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Wednesday morning. She passed peacefully while surrounded by family as she made her journey to heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Samuel DiLeo, who passed in 2022.

Helen was the daughter of the late Leo and Anna Stanko Hynosky. She attended South Scranton Public Schools and was a dedicated employee of Harper Collins for 23 years and Sanofi for 7 years.

Helen had a kind soul and a great sense of humor. A member of St. Ann’s Basilica in Scranton, she enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen for the Novena and reciting the rosary. She felt blessed to have meaningful relationships and treasured her role as a mother of two daughters above all. Rooted in her love of food, she often cooked for her family and enjoyed local restaurants. With family and friends, Helen loved roller skating, playing bingo, watching game shows, and traveling to the casinos. She also loved spending time with her dogs, Lexie and Paris, who she called her little buddies.

Helen is survived by her daughter Kim (Raymond) Connelly of Bridgewater, NJ; grandson Louis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Darlene DiLeo; sisters Dolores “Tootsie” Finnerow, Marion DiLeo, Anne Hatcher, and Dorothy Sampson; and brothers Donald, Robert, and Joseph Hynosky.

Helen’s family extends their gratitude to all who compassionately cared for her, including the nurses and staff at Geisinger At Home Health Care and Hospice of the Sacred Heart. We will long remember their genuine concern and kindness towards Helen and our family. A special thanks goes to her nieces and nephews for their ongoing love and support over the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17 at 11 AM in St. Ann’s Basilica, St. Ann’s Street, West Scranton. Interment will follow in Dunmore Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church beginning at 10 AM on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Helen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc.
