Peter E. Vacchiano Obituary

Peter Eugene Vacchiano died Sunday at Allied Hospice after a short illness. He was married to Lorriane DelVecchio for 41 years prior to her death in 2019.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Nicolas and Maria Vacchiano. He attended Scranton schools and was a member of St. Lucy's Church. Peter served in the US Army Signal Corps as an Electronic Technician at the start of the Korean War. After being discharged from the service he was hired at the Tobyhanna Army Depot in 1960 as a Civil Service Technician. He enjoyed traveling to many military sites in the US during the course of his employment.

Peter and Lorraine enjoyed traveling and visited Italy, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Morocco, Spain, and Venezuela together.  He shared stories of his travels at many family gatherings over the years. Peter was an avid golfer throughout his life and enjoyed playing with friends in multiple leagues.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and a laugh that will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his siblings James Mangiola, Joseph Vacchiano, Lena Mackinder, and Anna Costello.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Patricia Laske and her husband Richard. His nieces Fran Douiahy, Alexis McKenzie, Kristin Turner, and stepdaughter Lori Guizar. He was a great uncle to six beloved nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff at Clarks Summit Senior Living and Allied Hospice for their compassionate care.
