Raymond R. Ragnacci Sr., 89, of Dunmore, passed away Monday evening, May 15, at Linwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Maria Estrella Gandarillas. The couple had been married for 20 years.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Louis and Assunta Panfili Ragnacci and was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Johnson College. Prior to retirement, he was a sales manager for Carpet Chalet. He was a proud United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War. Raymond was also a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton.
Raymond was a member of the former Eclipse Hose Company in Dunmore and was also a former coach for the Dunmore Midget Football Program. He was an avid sports fan always supporting the Dunmore Bucks, Lady Bucks, New York Yankees, New York Giants and Penn State Nittany Lions. He enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and visiting Las Vegas, Italy and Hawaii. Raymond was a talented craftsman and cabinet maker and always took pride in his work. Above everything else, he was extremely fond of the children he raised. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Also surviving are his children, Renee Sheluga and husband, Kirk; Raymond Jr.; David and husband, Kevin Stevenson, all of Scranton; stepchildren, Kimberly Fine and companion, David Evans Jr., Trucksville; Michelle Nicholas and companion, Steven Kniolek, Throop; Edward Nicholas and wife, Jacquie, Olyphant; and Peter Nicholas Jr. and wife, Danielle, Scranton; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Romanini; and a brother, Robert Ragnacci.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue, Scranton. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc., 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
