On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, Shirley Ruth (Kane) Friedman, 95, of Scranton, passed away peacefully at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Scranton, born to Harry & Jeannette Kane on August 23, 1926. She graduated from Scranton Central High School and was married to the late Alfred E. Friedman in 1952 and had 3 sons. She worked at Wes Freedman Jewelers for many years as a sales associate. Shirley loved cooking, baking, and entertaining friends, and was an avid Bridge, Mahjong, and Scrabble player. She enjoyed going to the theater and loved traveling, both in the US and abroad. Shirley was proud of her family and spent lots of time visiting with them, always bringing goodies to share. She loved attending her grandchildrens’ graduations, weddings, and other important events. She was easy-going and never failed to ask how you were doing. She always inquired about the health & welfare of those she had met even briefly. She was gentle, kind, thoughtful, and generous, and walked through life with a positive attitude. She was a diplomat and a wonderful storyteller. Our lives have been enriched by knowing her. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but will live on in our hearts.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred, her brother Albert and sister-in-law Shirley. She is survived by her sons Steven (Deborah) of Pittsburgh, Gary (Naomi) of Philadelphia, and Robert of Philadelphia, 8 grandchildren, Jason (Katie), Melissa (Steve) Krammer, Emily, Sarah (Josh Suen), Beau (Megan), Chad (Pharri), Alix, and Carly (Andrew) Zakroff, and 3 great-grandchildren, Raina, Lucy, Grayson.
The funeral will be Sunday, June 26th at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Cantor Vladimir Aronzon.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment to follow at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. There will be reception after the service at The Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, 700 Lackawanna Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503 from 2-6 p.m. Sunday.
